“El Palacio” is a hotel built upon an old Arab “mansion” attached to the Watchtower of the town. In 1237, King Jaime I conquered these lands from the Arabs and, in gratitude for his support, gifted them to Don Pedro Ximénez de Valterra, who established a palace on the mansion, where his servants lived with the purpose of tending to his lands.

In 1838, Montanejos was recognized as free from all feudal obligations and tributes. From that point on, the former Palace of the Counts of Valterra became the property of the Guillamón-Martín family, who converted it into a hotel in 2002. Today, the hotel is managed by Elisa and Andrés, who, along with their team, are updating a hotel rich in tradition.
The Rooms
The hotel has 28 rooms of all types; doubles, triples, quadruples, as well as apartments and studios. The rooms are fully equipped and integrated into the original structure of the building, so they have a very cozy rustic character. Some of the rooms have views of the Church of San Jaime Apóstol and its lively square, while others have views of the mountain, the Alquería and the quiet bathing area of “El Molino”. The Restaurant and the Bar
The gastronomic offer of both the restaurant “El Palacio” and the tapas of the bar “La Torre” are a nod to the gastronomic tradition of Levante with clear references to the Brazilian flavours provided by our kitchen team. The “Carne Loca” or the “Alcachofinho”, the tapa that gave us victory in the Montanejos tapas competition, are proof of this.
Our team also strives to work with local products such as our cachopo from Carnicería Morte or the cheeses from Almedíjar… The desserts deserve a special mention, as they are all homemade and we put all our care and love into them. Both our chocolate brownie and our cheesecake are two guilty pleasures that you cannot miss.
